Metacognition is fascinating. To put it in simple terms, it is thinking about thinking. It is actively trying to understand how we process information, our best ways of learning, our worst methods of learning, and so much more. It was first coined by American Psychologist John H. Flavell in the 1970s. We’ve probably all done it at some point in our academic career and if not, they should probably do it. Most peopl would’ve had an easy phase of studying and a hard phase. It is in that hard phase that they would have done Metacognition. There’s another reason we should do it. It’s why it’s of high importance and relevance today. We are constantly surrounded by information, and we need to constantly learn something quickly, and keep updating ourselves in the golden age of technology. If we do not know the method by which our brain learns something most efficiently, we are losing money and our value in a work environment.

Next time you hit a wall while trying to grow, think about thinking.
