Free News is the Eradication of Truth.

Free news seems like the solution. Every person deserves to be aware of local or even international happenings. It is essential especially in a democratic nation, so that citizens could make informed decisions of who should be elected. So why should free news, which is now supposedly accessible to everyone, not be free? I’m going to argue with logic as my base, so I request all readers to follow first before mentally asking questions. Let’s ask the basic question, How do we get news today? We consume news in the form of articles, youtube  channels, live TV,  or sadly, social media. Most of these are free, right? Let’s focus on the YouTube  channels for a minute. Be it NBC, or SKY news, all reputable news companies have YouTube channels from which they provide free news. Realistically speaking, the revenue generated from YouTube is not enough if they were to maintain a free website on top of YouTube. Now, where do you go to keep the company running? Private companies willing to invest. That’s the start of the problem. There is not a lot, if there exists, of companies that invest in news channels without incentives; the incentives being ads or worse prevention of news against that company. This leads to hidden or manipulated truth (a lie). Let’s consider another scenario. What if that investing entity is the government? You hereby implicitly declare that no news shall be posted that reveals the government’s mistakes or flaws.

Sponsored news is squandered news

This post also turned out to be too long, so I’ll leave you here and continue tomorrow. Until then, mull over why you think news should be free.
