First of all, I wish you all a Happy New Year. I’m sure you would’ve made all your resolutions already, but I would like to convince you to add one more to the list. I’ve read plenty of articles and watched a dozen videos about journaling and they all suggest one thing: journaling makes your life better. I’m going to answer the HOW it accomplishes that goal.
Firstly, by writing down your thoughts, decisions, and day-to-day activities, you can visibly see where you’re going wrong. Our brain is very capable of tricking us into thinking we’re doing the right thing, so it usually takes another person to point out our mistakes. However, you can’t always have access to another person and in confidential matters, it is impossible. Thus, by writing stuff down, that paper becomes the person. You see your mistakes blaring right in your face.
Secondly, similar to meditation, seeing your emotions on paper reduces the intensity of the emotion and that can be particularly useful in times of stress. This is why bullet journaling is effective; by writing down the tasks you have, you eliminate the anxiety of forgetting. It also improves your mental clarity. By writing down how you feel, when you read it back to yourself, you might sound silly. There’s nothing wrong with that. As you keep making small changes everyday, you will start to see clarity in your writing and while speaking.
All this evidence clearly supports the case for journaling. We have a lot to do in our lives, and the amount of work is only increasing, and slowing down is the need of the hour. The easiest way to probably do that is journaling, so among all other resolutions, why not take up journaling in 2025?
Once again, a Happy New Year to you all.
