Welcome back. Today is the final episode of the Apple Comeback series. It has been an exhilarating ride, and I enjoyed both the research and writing phase of this as gruelling as it is.
The iMac was just a trailer of what was to come. The 2000s marked the revolutionizing phase of the tech giant. In 2001 came the iPod. A pocketable, clean mp3 player that began Apple’s reputation of seamless connectivity. It comprehensively beat every other mp3 player on the market. It could store way more songs; it could store songs from way more sources (burning cds, downloading from iTunes, etc); it just did everything better. A clean white aesthetic also became part of Apple’s design strategy over the years.
In the same year, Jobs launched the Apple Store, and people were skeptical. They deemed it a waste of money and one of the worst decisions Steve Jobs has made. However, as with all the other products, Apple Stores were a huge success, and the Genius Bar was one of the best moves by Apple, distinguishing their stores from the others. Another big change for Apple was switching to Intel processors for their macs in 2005, which now is stopped, but it was a great move back then.
But none of this comes close to 2007. 2007 changed human lives forever. Steve Jobs got up on stage. He showed all the ways buttons were flawed. Then, a rectangle shaped object popped up. The first iPhone was shown to the public. Smartphone addiction is a huge thing now, and it started with that presentation. I read a comment in the comment section on the youtube video of the full 2007 keynote and it was simply brilliant. It read, “There was a life before, and a life after this presentation… This presentation changed the world forever.” It not only changed the course of history, but expeditiously boosted Apple’s growth, making it the most valuable company right now.
Since then, Apple has never stopped growing, and it has grown to be loved by millions and supported by billions. This is one of the best examples of how one man’s vision can change the course of not only a company, but human lives forever. From almost being bankrupt to becoming the highest valued company in the world, Apple stands tall. It is a story that is worth telling, and I loved every bit of the journey. Signing of for now.
